14 Growing Garlic & an Award

I went to my pantry about a week ago and ended up pulling out a garlic head that had two tiny green shoots peeking out of it.  This happens to my onions and sometimes even potatoes and I don't think twice about getting rid of them.

But for some reason, looking down at that garlic, I thought hey I should totally plant this!

Now the plant is 3 times as big, and just loving it!  I'm so excited to have fresh garlic in my garden now.  I have no idea what to do with it, so I need to read up and fast.  Has anyone ever grown Garlic before?

I was so surprised again when Tiffany of My Crowded Kitchen and Holistic Gal of Holistic Gals Thinny Recipes gave me the Versatile Blogger Award!  I just love the vegetarian and vegan recipes on Holistic Gal.  She has such great info about food and living well.  You can also find Tiffany, and her fabulous desserts and recipes, as a weekly author on A Thrifty Mom.  Thank you so much Tiffany and Holistic Gal!

Here's the scoop on the Award...

So, what is the Versatile Blogger Award? ”It is a great way to introduce different bloggers to each other and to promote quality blogs that awardees and their readers may not have discovered otherwise.”

Thank the person who gave you this award.

Include a link to their blog.

Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you've recently discovered or follow regularly.

Link to those 15 bloggers for the the Versatile Blogger Award.  And let them know by posting a comment on their blog.

Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

So here are my nominees:

Okay that was tough and I could pick 15!

Seven things about me...

1.  In real life I work with a local Wildlife Refuge, I love animals (especially birds) and am pretty passionate about conservation.

2.  I'm a military wife and my hubster is a helicopter pilot.

3.  I adore skinny jeans, especially if they are colored.

4.  Hopefully getting our first Labrador puppy this summer!

5.  I read, a lot.  (And not just cookbooks!)  I have stacks upon stacks on my nightstand...

6.  I don't watch TV.  I'm serious!  If I do happen to turn it on, it's usually for The Big Bang Theory or How I Met Your Mother.

7.  I'm a twenty-something, inching closer to the big 3-0.  And I'm not sure how I feel about that...

  2. Thanks so much Abby! This is so much fun! I'm nearing the big 3-0 as well and sort of wish that I had stopped at 26, but I'm also enjoying all the things that keep coming with each year.
Good luck with your puppy! Our vizsla puppy, Parsley, is just past 5 months now and it's just the best feeling in the world to come home to her!

I grew garlic once and I just pulled up enough to use for a few weeks or so and broke the head up, then replanted. It just keeps grooooowing!

  8. Congrats on your award and I'm so flattered that you passed it on to me, too. Thank you!

My husband would be so jealous that yours is a helicopter pilot. Mine flies a plane but he's always wanted to be licensed in helicopters, too. :)

Enjoy the rest of your week! :)

  10. Yeah girl! I put my green onions in a jar on my counter that gets plenty of sunshine and those things grew and grew and grew until I was sick of having green onions on my counter. It's strange how it's strange that we think things bought from a grocery store are done growing but really they have so much more to give!

  14. Thanks so much for including me on the list Abby- I truly am honored!! As for the garlic- I have found that growing it is awesome pest control...at least the bunnies in my yard do not touch it! Of course the green "scapes" are edible too, just a milder taste- slice and use as you would garlic cloves.
