Well he broke it in half technically. I guess he thought if he ate the pictures it would be like eating the food....or something. So while I'm retaking a few pics, I thought I'd share what kept me busy this weekend.
BEFORE: Fern explosion...(you don't even want to know what was living in there!)
AFTER: Gorgeous burgundy fall Mums + Dianthus...
I really love gardening. I think it's my favorite thing about having a house and I'm enjoying making it my own (even if we are just renting). There's something about getting my hands in the dirt, actually there's been a study that while gardening we inhale bacteria that lives in the soil which actually releases serotonin in our brains. (Article Here) So gardening really does make you happy!
It was also my way to start sneaking fall into our house. I hadn't fully realized how much I really do love this time of year. Mums = Fall to me, and walking through Lowes I had to have this gorgeous purple mum...it happily lives on our front porch now.
I also picked up cilantro & dill, and probably will be going back for lettuce. Someday I will have enough room for a real veggie garden.
With all my work outside I decided to bring some fall inside too. A lot of the hobby stores were having 40-50% off sales this weekend (and I found a Home Goods!!!!) so I decided to start a fall mantle. This is my first one ever, and I'm really excited about it. I've been scouring pinterest for ideas and it's still not quite done but here's what I have so far...
Here's a closer look...
All for under $50. It's getting there!
What are you doing for fall?

oh i love it!! mums are the epitome of fall, and i adore your mantle :) gardening makes me happy too and i cant wait to be a homeowner so i can make it my own :)
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh Watson. Causing mischief like a cute puppy would. ;) Let's do some gardening at my place and then decorate for fall! There's something very therapeutic about gardening and watching plants grow. Also getting ready for the season change is fun, especially when you can do it all for under $50, great deal!
ReplyDeleteHaven't see you around lately, thought I would pop over to say hi. Love the mantle!!
ReplyDeleteMums! I can't wait to plant one myself!
ReplyDeleteSo fun making your place into your home! I love the special touches both inside and out. When Lambeau was a pup, she ate our TV's remote control and it was frozen in the picture in picture mode :/
ReplyDeleteHi Sweetie! Looks like you are having a very fun time. That nesting urge can fly unchecked when you have a place to call your own.
ReplyDeleteMy fall project is to make an outdoor, wood-fired pizza oven. It will be blog by blogged about.
love the mums and i adore your fall mantle! yayy for fall!
ReplyDeleteI love the changing of seasons, it always inspires me to do fun projects too!
ReplyDeleteI'm always so impressed with people who decorate their mantles with the seasons! I don't have a mantle to decorate (and if I decorated my windowsill, that would piss the cats of royally), but I don't know if I'd have the creativity to do something cute with it every season! So adorable and fun.
ReplyDeleteI had 't heard about the link between gardening and serotonin... it makes so much sense! Thanks for sharing the article too. Beautiful photos, as always :)
