Wooo, I'm so excited - I finally planted my kitchen garden!! I still have to buy a few more plants besides the Basil and Parsley, I'm thinking Dill or Cilantro, I'll just assume you are all nodding in agreement.
And remember my Garlic plant from this post? Well, we packed it in our car and drove it 1000+ miles and look at it going strong...
oh and those are our solar powered string lights from Target.
My mom has been a Master Gardner for most of my life so I've learned from her that the best soil mix is..
Miracle Grow Potting Soil
&
Leaf Gro (if you are in Maryland)
Here in Florida I found Earth Grow which is made of cow manure.
Mix together in your pot for a nutrient rich soil. It truly works, her garden grows like crazy!
And something to brighten any day, flowers! I went with white Petunias and yellow and coral Purslanes for the heat resistance. This southern heat is no joke.
Also, this weekend Suzi @ Cookings Good gave me the Food Stories Award for Excellence in Storytelling. I was floored! Thank you so much Suzi, I think we all try to write with a strong voice and it's much harder than it looks. So here's the scoop...
Food Stories is pleased to present the Food Stories Award for Excellence in Storytelling, a fabulous nomination that anyone can bestow on their fellow bloggers.
Here’s how it works:
1. The nominee should visit the award site (http://foodstoriesblog.com/food-stories-award/) and leave a comment indicating that they have been nominated and by whom. (This step is so important because it’s the only way our judges will know who is being considered for the monthly award).
2. The Nominee should thank the person that nominated them by posting on their own blog & including a link to their blog.
3. The Nominee should include a courtesy link back to the official award site (http://foodstoriesblog.com/food-stories-award/) in their blog post.
4. Share one random thing about yourself in your blog post.
5. Select at least five other bloggers that you enjoy reading their stories and nominate them for the award. Include these nominees in your blog post.
6. Notify your nominees by leaving a comment on their blog, including a link to the award site (http://foodstoriesblog.com/food-stories-award/).

ReplyDeleteAt first I thought you nominated me for a gardening award and I was completely floored (and was thinking, poor Abby, she hasn't been reading my blog long enough ;) ). I am so honored to receive the storytelling award for you, even more than a gardening one!
And on the note of garden, yours looks fantastic. :)
Ab - Fantasy Factory is by far the most hilarious and underrated show on MTV!! I only wish I had more time to watch his crazy antics. Can't wait to see you in FL!
ReplyDeleteThanks, lady! You are too kind. I'll get right on it :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the award, Abby! This made my day. :D
ReplyDeleteCilantro is a must! I also love fresh thyme and rosemary although my rosemary never grows :(
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the award Abby!! Haha totally agree with the Cool ranch doritos...I think I lived off those in high school :) And love all your garden plants! I'm going to try starting a small veggie garden next week and I'm super nervous!
ReplyDeleteI'm getting better at gardening...I find watering helps ;) Congrats on your Foods Stories nomination!
